Privacy Policy

Tech or Skip (techorskip.com) is a static site. There are no user accounts, no logins, and no server-side database, so we're not sitting on a pile of visitor records. This policy covers what actually happens with your data: server logs from hosting, the analytics and ad-measurement tools we use (and when they're actually switched on), advertising cookies, affiliate links, and how to change your mind about any of it.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like almost any web host, Cloudflare processes standard server logs to serve pages and keep the site secure: IP address, browser type, requested URL. We don't have a separate analytics dashboard tied to this data; it's just part of how the hosting infrastructure runs. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for what they process.

Your consent choices

Before Google Analytics, the Reddit Pixel, or personalized ads do anything with your visit, you're shown a consent message. It's built and served by Google, through AdSense's Privacy & messaging tools, and it shows the version required for where you are: the GDPR message in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, or the matching US state privacy message elsewhere in the US.

Behind that message sits Google's Consent Mode v2. Every visit starts with four signals denied by default: ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization, and analytics_storage. Nothing beyond that default runs until you respond to the message. When you do, Google updates those signals and the tools that need your consent switch on, or stay off if you said no.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

When it's turned on, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to see which articles are actually useful and which ones aren't. GA4 collects things like the pages you viewed, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, basic device and browser details, and a handful of engagement signals: how far you scrolled, whether you stuck around for at least 30 seconds, and clicks on related articles or outbound links. None of it is tied to your name or email; we don't collect either.

In the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, GA4 stays off until you consent through the message above. Google's retention window for this kind of data runs 2 to 14 months depending on how the property is configured, and it's deleted automatically once that window passes. If you'd rather Google Analytics not run at all, wherever you go, install Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Reddit Pixel

A chunk of our traffic comes from Reddit ads, and when the Reddit Pixel is enabled, it tells us whether that traffic is worth the money: whether someone who clicked an ad actually read the article, or bounced straight back. It measures visits and engagement tied to ad clicks, not who you are. Like GA4, it only fires with your consent where consent is legally required, gated by the same message and the same Consent Mode signals.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site is verified with Google AdSense, and ad units will start showing once approval is complete and ads are switched on. From that point, AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve ads and, where you've allowed it, personalize which ones you see based on your visit here and elsewhere. If you haven't consented to personalized ads, you'll see non-personalized ones instead, based on the page you're reading rather than your browsing history. Some articles contain affiliate links, marked with a disclosure line at the top of the article. If you click through and buy something, the merchant may set its own cookie to credit the sale to this site, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don't control what those merchants do with that data; check their own privacy policies. See our affiliate disclosure for how this works.

Your rights

Since we don't run accounts or a visitor database, there usually isn't much of "your data" sitting on our own systems to request. If you want to know what we hold, or want it deleted, email contact@techorskip.com and we'll respond as best we can as a small team. If you're in the EU or UK, GDPR gives you rights over personal data processed by third parties too, including our host and, once they're switched on, Google Analytics, the Reddit Pixel, and AdSense. The fastest route for those requests is usually the provider directly, but we'll point you the right way. The same goes for CCPA if you're a California resident. You can also withdraw ad and analytics consent at any time through "Privacy choices" in the footer. We're a small independent publisher, not a data broker, and we'll say so plainly if a request is outside what we can technically fulfill ourselves.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We'll update this policy as tools switch on or change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date at the top of this page.
