About Tech or Skip

Tech or Skip is a small, independent publication that answers one question about consumer tech: is this actually worth your money and time? We cover AI tools, apps and subscriptions, gadgets, and the privacy and scam issues that come with all of it.

TODO(owner): add the name(s) and short bio of who actually runs this site. A real byline is one of the clearest trust signals a small publisher can offer, and it's missing until this is filled in.

Our verdict system

Every review ends with one of three calls: USE, WAIT, or SKIP. USE means we'd spend the money ourselves. WAIT means it's close but not quite there — a price drop, a missing feature, or a better alternative arriving soon might change the answer. SKIP means we wouldn't bother, and we say why.

The verdict comes first in every article, not buried at the end. If you're short on time, you should be able to read the first few lines and know exactly where we land.

How we test

Where a claim in an article depends on hands-on testing, someone on this team has actually run it — installed the app, paid for the subscription, put the same prompts to competing AI tools, or used the gadget for real. We're not reformatting a spec sheet and calling it a review.

When a result hasn't been personally verified yet, we don't invent a number to fill the gap. Articles show a visible placeholder — TODO:OWNER-TEST — marking exactly what still needs to be tested and recorded. We'd rather show you an honest gap than a fabricated benchmark. If you ever see one of these markers on a published article, it means that piece genuinely isn't finished yet.

Editorial independence

Verdicts are not for sale. No company can pay for a better USE/WAIT/SKIP call, and no advertiser or affiliate partner sees a review before it's published. Advertising and affiliate revenue pay the bills; they don't touch the conclusion.
